Yes, GTAV and RDR2 have wildly immersive environments for their time. Stripped of story and combat, they'd probably both still be worth price for the openness and freedom and interactiveness of their settings. However, the combat is hot trash. It is not immersive to go from well done, high tension cutscenes to literally mowing down 80+ armed guys like you're a more prolific killer than the likes of Master Chief and Doom Guy. Moreover, the actually gunplay feels absolutely terrible compared to pretty much every other third person shooter. I'm fairly certain they use mass amounts of enemies to cover up how bland the actual mechanics of combat are. I'm genuinely surprised this isn't criticized more, or seemingly at all. And look, I get it, no game does everything well, and these games are definitely worth their price tags in spite of the terrible combat.
