What happened to cheat codes? #gaming

Back in the day it seemed like almost every game had cheat codes for things like God mode and unlimited ammo, or fun things like big head mode, etc. Usually a series of button inputs or in some cases finding secrets in game to unlock them. When I was a kid I had a binder full of pages of codes printed out from sites like gamefaqs and gamewinners. You just don't see that as much, if at all anymore. Sure there's mods but it just isn't the same. Why did game devs stop putting cheat codes in their games?
